A digital signature is necessary whenever an individual or organization needs to conduct legal activities over the internet, such as filing tax returns or registering businesses.
Class 1
This class type is used to secure email communications and shall be issued for both business personnel and private individual use
Class 2
This class type is used for Incorporation of entities, Business Registrations, Income Tax Filing, etc.
Class 3
This class type is used for participating in E-Tendering or E-Auctions.
PLATFORMS WHERE DSC IS REQUIRED OR MANDATORY
1. Company Incorporation: When incorporating a Public Limited Company, Private Limited Company, Limited Liability Partnership, or One Person Company, it is mandatory to obtain a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
2. Obtaining Director Identification Number (DIN): When applying for a Director Identification Number (DIN), having a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is a prerequisite.
3. Ministry of Corporate Affairs (Compliances): Businesses with an annual turnover exceeding INR 60 Lakhs must verify their returns using a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) as mandated by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
4. Income Tax: Individuals and professionals with an annual gross receipt exceeding INR 25 Lakhs, and businesses with an annual turnover of INR 1 Crore or more, are required to file income tax using a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
5. Goods and Service Tax: For business entities other than Sole Proprietorships, having a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is mandatory for both GST registration and verifying GST Returns online.
6. Import & Export Code: Obtaining a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is mandatory when applying for an Import & Export Code.
7. Intellectual Property Rights: Filing for Intellectual Property Rights such as Trademarks and Patents requires the use of a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
8. E-Tendering: Companies and organizations participating in or intending to participate in E-Tendering processes on various Government sites must possess a Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
9. Employee Provident Fund: Employers in India can submit their employee PF transfer claim forms online using either Class 2 Gold or Class 3 Digital Signature Certificates (DSC).
